AVACHINSKY VOLCANO

Within hand’s reach at 27km NE from the city and looking unusual with its complex shape of a typical Somma volcano (the originates from Mt Somma in Italy, albeit the Avachinksy is much larger). The surrounding circular rising is over 4km in diameter and has a destroyed opening in its SW part while standing 2317m tall in its eastern, intact portion. The atrio (ring-shaped recession between the soma and the newer cone) is filled with ice and firn that hang down the volcano’s slopes in several tongues

MUTNOVSKY VOLCANO

This complex-shaped volcano ranks among the most active ones in Kamchatka.
Current activity happens chiefly in the northern part of its caldera where rocks protruding among glaciers are dotted by sulfur deposits and fumaroles. Fumarole clusters at Mutnovsky are the biggest in Kamchatka.

Notably, even untrained individuals can walk into this volcano. Of course it must be kept in mind that volcanoes tolerate no frivolous treatment and that there’s a record of mishaps in the crater.

GORELY VOLCANO

Tall at 1829m above sea level, this active volcano is situated in southern Kamchatka, constituting a part of the East Kamchatka volcanic belt. The bulk of it is largely two massive abjects, an ancient shield plate crowned by a 13-kilometre caldera and a recent stratovolcano-type structure.

VALLEY OF GEYSERS

One of the ‘wonders of Russia,’ the world-famous Valley of Geysers in included in the Kronotsky natural reserve in the eastern part of the peninsula, some 160km away from Petropavlovsk at an elevation of over 500m above sea level. In June 2008, an internet poll named the Valley of Geysers the best among seven wonders of Russia.

KURIL LAKE
